Hosting and computing-as-a-service provider Rackspace Hosting has launched Migration App, a do-it-yourself email migration tool that helps organisations to move email data into the “cloud”, also allowing users to pull information from one service provider to another to break down the boundaries of vendor lock-in.

Migration App enables users to copy information from previous servers to the Rackspace hosted email platforms, which include Rackspace Email and Microsoft Exchange.
“It minimises concerns over data integrity and security during migration,” says Geoff Dowell, Rackspace spokesperson for the South African market. “With Migration App, it is quick and easy to reap the benefits of cloud computing for email, which remains the primary communication tool for businesses.”
Other benefits include the ability to customise multiple migrations for specifics sets of mailboxes; scheduling a migration at the most suitable date and time; automatic transfer of email data once the migration begins; online progress reports and email alerts; and migration from Exchange servers and POP/IMAP servers.
Dowell adds that there are also settings for popular email services, like GoDaddy. “Migration progress can be monitored online and the migration details can be saved so that the migration report can be accessed and viewed at any time.”
