SA traffic moved off SAT-3 | Print |  E-mail
Thursday, 04 February 2010, 11:50

South African international traffic has been moved off the SAT-3 undersea cable as efforts to repair problems experienced all week have so far proved fruitless.

Traffic has been re-routed on to the SAFE cable instead, but users can expect high latency and delays.
The SAT-3 cable was down last week and again on Monday this week, when traffic was moved to a restoration path while engineers attempted to repair problems upstream from South Africa.
Now, it appears that power problems in Abidjan have caused a complete breakdown, prompting the removal of South Africa's traffic on to the SAFE cable instead.
