Schwartz bows out via Twitter | Print |  E-mail

Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz has left the company, following the successful conclusion of its acquisition by Oracle last week.

Schwartz's departure was expected -he'd alluded to it in a 27 January blog - and the way he made the final announcement was typical of his management style - he broke the news via Twitter, with a haiku.
The Twitter post reads: "Today's my last day at Sun. I'll miss it. Seems only fitting to end on a #haiku. Financial crisis/Stalled too many customers/CEO no more."
Schwartz uses the alias "openjonathan" on Twitter and last week invited the many followers of his blog to follow his to that platform.
"Having had nine months to accelerate down the runway, there's not a doubt in my mind Oracle's takeoff and ascent will be fast and dramatic," he blogges. "I wish the combined entity the best of luck, and have enormous confidence in the opportunity.
"Greg Papadopoulos, one of the brightest people I've ever known, once made a very interesting statement - all technology ultimately becomes a fashion item. It was true for timekeeping, and it's definitely true of computing and telecommunications. To that law, I'd like to add a simple corollary: the technology industry only gets more interesting. It's been true my entire life."
