Sunday for SAT-3 restoration | Print |  E-mail
Friday, 05 February 2010, 17:26

It is hoped that South Africa's international traffic will be restored on Sunday 7 February - as long as power problems in Abidjan can be solved before that.

Traffic between South African and New York/London has been severely affected the whole of this week, with problems eventually forcing Telkom to remove traffic from SAT-3 altogether on Thursday.
South African traffic has been routed to North America and Europe via the SAFE cable, but this has led to increased latency and delays.
Telkom has sheduled restoration to the primary path of the SAT-3 cabale for Sunday, between 02h00 and 11h30.
This is dependent on power being successfully configured upstream, which is expected to take place on Saturday.
It is expected that the restoration wil solve the latency and delay problems that South African users have been experiencing.
