Thursday, 13 May 2010, 09:21

Samsung Electronics has urged consumers not to fall for a hoax SMS doing the rounds.

Consumers have been receiving an SMS stating: “Congratulations. Your no. was among the lucky winners on the SAMSUNG YEARLY PROMOTION. You won, R120,000. Ticket no. 0166PS. Call Mark Nelson... for your cash prize.”
Consumers are then asked to provide banking details to receive their cash prize.
“We urge consumers not to fall prey to this hoax and not to provide any banking details to the abovementioned person,” says Nancy Gwama, head of corporate communications at Samsung South Africa. “This is not an official competition run by Samsung and we are in the process of investigating its origin.”
