AMD CEO Ruiz to open SA office | Print |  E-mail
Thursday, 31 May 2007, 05:46
AMD's long-awaited and much-anticipated South African office will be officially opened on Monday by the chip maker's CEO Hector Ruiz. Ruiz, who is literally on a whistlestop tour of the country, will also announce the appointment of Imi Mosaheb as AMD's country manager.
While the company remains tight-lipped about Ruiz's itinerary, it is reliably learnt that he will spend about six hours in Johannesburg meeting with AMD distribution partners and key customers, as well as a hurriedly re-arranged Press briefing.
The reason for this, apparently, is because Ruiz will then jet down to Cape Town to meet with South African president Thabo Mbeki  and certain cabinet ministers.
Ruiz's visit and announcements come nearly two years after AMD vice-president Henri Richard stated that the company was keen to open a local office.
